Does recoup stop at full life? ›

Recovery of energy shield, life, and mana through recoup is scaled by increases and reductions to energy shield, life, and mana recovery rate, respectively. Recovery does not go away at full life/mana/es but what would be recovered during the time at full is wasted.

For example, at 20/20, Petrified Blood will cause the player to take 76% of the 40% of the hit as life loss; a player would theoretically need at least 30.4% Life recoup in this scenario to counteract the loss. Modifiers to life recovery rate will affect the needed Recoup value.

The more common modifier, Recovery Rate, applies to any form of non-instant recovery. Most modifiers to Recovery Rate such as the "of Smothering" map modifiers are actually a misnomer, and affect recovery (the amount gained) without modifying duration (e.g. Leech, Recoup, flasks, etc.).

The total recovery rate of all life leech instances is limited to 20% of maximum life or mana per second (10% for energy shield). The extra recovery over that cap will be ignored.

yeah, the rule of thumb for life is 300 per act. Buld up your defenses, max resistances and ovber 3k HP. And if you're only using ES (no Armor/Evasion) you should have more of that to. I usually try to have at least 4500-5000 HP+ES in early postgame when not using other defenses.

90% is a good general number to aim for - getting close to 95% (which is the max possible) is very difficult and not usually worth it. Unless you totally rely on crit, 90 to 95 is negligible. As soon as crit is involved you better hit 95% for damage.

Leech can be modified significantly through passives, support gems, and equipment. Beyond just adding various sources of leech, modifiers such as #% increased total Recovery per second from Life Leech or #% increased Maximum total Recovery per second from Life Leech can change how leech is applied to a character.

If you remove PB, you'll still be tankier than not using it. "Planning around it" nullifies the 40% hit portion, but the 60% hit, with even less effective hp pool, kills you regardless. PB cuts 20% of effective hp pool and doesn't really give anything in return.

Petrified Blood will only protect your life up to your low life threshold, and will not affect damage redirected to energy shields or mana. You cannot directly mitigate the life loss over time from Petrified Blood in any way, not even from sources of damage immunity like a Divine Shrine.

Damage taken from Trauma

The damage taken per Trauma stack hits, enabling when-hit effects and Cast when Damage Taken Support. It also allows your armour and/or physical damage reduction to prevent some of the physical damage taken. However, the damage cannot be blocked or evaded via evasion rating/dodge.

Usually something will specify if it only works on hits (but not always). Recoup does work for DoTs, so it's a very nice defensive layer for RF. Recoup doesn't recover from DoT, and thus does nothing for RF degen itself. It's still a nice defensive layer to have though.

The maximum amount of life regenerated by any one character is 90% of their total life or energy shield per second.

Damage reduction can mitigate damage over time, though it can only be gained from armour against hits. Despite the generic name, it is unrelated to mechanics like resistances or modifiers to damage taken such as #% reduced Damage taken. It has a maximum of 90% and a minimum of 0%.

While the mind endures, so too will the body. Mind Over Matter (often referred to as MoM) is a keystone passive skill that allows the character's mana to absorb a portion of the damage dealt to life.
